Pennsylvania Native Son Jim Worthing

Returns to  Harrisburg for

Armed Forces Day Events at City Island

Harrisburg, PA – International recording artist, songwriter, producer, and Pennsylvania native Jim Worthing will bring his uniquely outstanding vocal talents to the 7th Annual Armed Forces Day Events at City Island in Harrisburg, PA on this Saturday, May 17, 2008.  Worthing will perform a variety of patriotic and positive music selections in two performances (at 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.) on the stage in the North parking lot.  His performances will follow the 11:00 a.m. opening ceremony there.

Visit www.harrisburgevents.com for complete details of all the fun-filled family activities planned throughout the day.  There is no admission charge.

Worthing, 46, is an attractive seasoned vocalist who has performed in 48 states and abroad in a variety of venues.  Prior to becoming a solo artist, he sang lead for more than a decade with the Cumberland Boys, Opryland’s Gospel Quartet, in Nashville, Tennessee.  Earlier in his career he was an integral part of Re-Creation, a Pennsylvania based touring ensemble.

Just a few weeks ago, Jim Worthing had the honor of being a featured entertainer at the 100th Anniversary Commemoration Dinner for the US Army Reserves.  This was at the Marriott Wardman Park in Washington, DC on April 23, 2008.  Worthing composed and performed “For One Hundred Years” especially in honor of this historic occasion.  He also sang an extended version of “Soul of Liberty,” an original song penned by Worthing and wife LaDonna, to accompany a Powerpoint presentation prepared by the military especially for the event.

“Soul of Liberty” is a “thank you” song to Veterans and members of the US Armed Forces.  This song became the catalyst for Worthing’s most recent full length CD, “American Highway,” which is a unique collection of patriotic and positive music.  They are songs of America and songs of life’s journey.

Caring about veterans and those serving in our military is nothing new for Jim Worthing.  Over the years he has had the honor of performing, usually pro bono, in most of the nation’s Veterans Administration Medical Centers and Homes.  While in Pennsylvania, he is scheduled to appear at the VAMC in Lebanon on May 19th.   He currently serves on the board of the Nashville based Veterans Fund, a non-profit organization, which works tirelessly to facilitate entertainment and other programs that brighten the days of those who are in the Veterans Administration Medical Centers and Homes.

In recognition of his musical gifts to those serving in our Armed Forces, as part of the 100th Anniversary Commemoration Dinner in DC, Worthing was highly honored to be presented with the personal coin of Lt. General Jack C. Stultz, Chief, Army Reserve and Commanding General, Army Reserve Command.

In addition to the appearance in DC, Worthing was recently part of the Music in the Gardens Week-end at Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, GA.  During the holiday season he was in Wetzikon, Switzerland as part of a special concert series to honor the memory of the late European star John Brack (with whom Worthing toured Switzerland during the Christmas seasons of 2004 and 2005).  Since then he was the featured entertainer at the 35th Annual CPAC (Conservative Political Action Conference) at the historic Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, DC.

Though originally from Altoona, Pennsylvania, Worthing now makes his home in Grenada, Mississippi.  Visit his website at www.jimworthing.com.  You can listen to many of his song clips there and “Soul of Liberty” in its entirety.  Don’t miss seeing him on Armed Forces Day at City Island.  You’ll get to hear the brand new “For One Hundred Years” song along with his outstanding arrangements of familiar favorites.  His vocals and genuine appreciation for those serving our country will likely touch your heart and your soul
